The thing that will create real, lasting weight loss is a lifestyle change and that is what these things will help you do. Eat a sensible diet. This seems like a no brainer, but so many people want to take a diet short cut. They cling to the fads that say you can eat all you want and still lose weight. This is simply not true. It is a balance of how many calories go in and how many are burned. The bottom line is if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight. If you eat fewer calories than you burn then you will lose weight. But it isn't about just eating fewer calories. You need to make sure that the calories you eat are of the highest nutritional value possible. If you eat a healthy and sensible diet, you will give your body the fuel it needs to sustain it throughout the day. Build Mu scle. It is a proven fact that muscle burns more calories than fat. So it stands to reason that if you have more muscle on your body you will burn more calories even when you sleep! Not only will building muscle help you burn more calories, it will protect your bones as you age. There is great benefit in weight training no matter your age. Do it now and do it for life, to lose weight and protect your bones. Don't forget the Cardio! Now we aren't talking legwarmers and headbands, but aerobic exercise is an important part of permanent weight loss. You can do many different things for cardio exercise from running and biking to dancing and swimming. The point of aerobic exercise is to raise your heart rate for at least 20 minutes. More is better, but try to get at least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise three to five times a week.
